The Evercade is a retro gaming handheld designed with retro cartridges. I’m a proud owner of one, and I’d like to share my thoughts on the device.
The Evercade, in short, is an absolutely fantastic device. I only own one cartridge (Namco Museum collection 1) I know this is 100% worth the money.
You can buy the console bundled with Namco Museum collection 1 for about £60-£70 as the starter pack, or you can spend about £100 and get the premium pack, which is the same as the starter version, only with an added bonus of Atari and Interplay collection 1.
Sidenote: You can buy an Evercade VS for pre-order, shipping in November at roughly the same prices. It is a home console, has 4 player support and has 2 cartridge slots for ease of game switching.
Each cartridge is a “collection” and has 2 to 20 games included. They cost about £15 and if you have Amazon Prime and order in the morning, you get them delivered on the same day. Quite impressive!
The emulation is on point. I haven’t seen any lag or sound errors.
Let’s talk about controls. They’re important. The D-pad resembles a Sega Saturn controller. Nice and big, very satisfying. The buttons resemble and arcade controller. That’s all brilliant, but the L/R buttons are probably the best. The shape makes it so your fingers perfectly rest on them comfortably, and make a perfect *click* when you press them. Very satisfying!
The cartridge slot is a similar story, but not clicky. The cartridges are shaped so that when you put one in, it looks like part of the device. And when you put it in, there’s a satisfying feeling that I can’t put into words.
The device can emulate Atari 2600, the Atari 7800, the Atari Lynx, the NES, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), the Mega Drive, the Intellivision, and in November, arcade games.
Final score 10/10. Highly recommended.
